Yoga types?
What type of yoga is generally taught in gyms? I attend the yoga class at my university but am unsure of the type I am engaging in. I have a bad back (two injuries already at the age of 23) so yoga is the best way for me to keep in shape without too much impact on my spine. Anybody that wants to share their knowledge of yoga and its multifaceted impacts and the types commonly taught in gyms are welcome…

Probably what is somewhat generically called Power yoga.
Most Power yoga is derived from Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, the difference being that in Power yoga, there is no set series of asanas (poses) you must follow.
In true Ashtanga Vinyasa, the series of asanas you perform is always the same.
If you get the chance, I highly recommend the Ashtanga dvd’s by either Melanie Fawer or David Swenson.
