I’ve never learned yoga, but I do meditate every day.

I take 3 vinyasa, 1 astanga and 2 hatha yoga class every week. Obviously, I love it.

The vinyasa is nice because my instructors are all very creative with the flow, so it never feels like we’re doing the same old thing. It gives me an opportunity to try new poses and see where it goes.

The hatha classes are very nice – quite relaxing. I these aren’t as much a “work out” as they are a relaxation technique.

If I skip my astanga class, it really has an effect on my practice. that class really allows me to fully experience the poses, not only because of the routine, but because the other students in class are more advance than I am, so I get to see deeper expressions of the postures.

I’m finding it very helpful with my anxiety and I feel much healthier since I began yoga.

I practice a form of Yoga as exercise.. I relax my body and mind while get into and holding many different positions/poses.. Some stretch muscles others align my center of gravity..

I do not buy into the mind expanding or religious side some people attatch to Yoga… I don’t use it to see a deity I do not beleive in deities.. I do it because it relaxes me, after a very stressful day (I have 3 kids so I have a few of those) 30 minutes – an hour relaxing my mind and body feels really good..

I usually start by isolating the tense areas (neck shoulders back) with a few stretches to warm up the muscles so I don’t pull something.. Then I sit on the floor and spread my legs into the splits and lay my chest between my legs touching the floor My hands either raised above my head touching the floor or layed over my legs to the side (each way stretches slightly different muscles) .. Always in a slow fluid motion no bouncing that can tear muscles etc. once I acheive the pose I consentrate on relaxing each group of muscles.. Legs, arms, back, stomach, neck, etc. sometimes I really relax and will actually go to sleep for a few minutes.. Then I relax my mind.. I try to think about only pleasent things feilds of flowers, ice cream, whatever is relaxing to me that day..

I can feel my body actually really relax it’s a sensation like holding a rubberband stretched between your fingers (hold it for 2-3 minutes) then take off some of the tension not all.. you can feel the release.. When I feel that I change to a different position and repeat the steps… Usually 10-15 minutes per position until I feel really relaxed..

Before I started my type of Yoga I found myself snapping at my husband and kids.. I found myself feeling overwhelmed by day to day things (dishes needing to be done, who had what activity what day and how was I going to work out everybodys schedule, etc) Since I started I find myself much more relaxed about everything.. I don’t get tired or snap as much..

For me Yoga is my alone time my time to relax my body and mind… Just plain my time..

On a side note sex has also improved… With the added flexibility new and different positions are available..

My blood pressure has also improved because i feel generally less stressed and tense..

Give it a try even if you don’t want to get into the religius side there are health benefits to using it for relaxation.. no need to think about aligning spiritual forces in the body etc. just use it to release tension in muscles and stretch..

Oh I forgot I do deep breathing the whole time deep breath in slowly blow out similar to lamaze breathing it makes me feel good..

I had the privilege to learn & practise Sahaja Yoga & meditation. It is very benefitial to me and my friends and family.
Sahaja Yoga is simple form of meditation in which you get your self realization after kundalini awakening.
